Patagonia sin represas

Students gathering at the Universidad de Concepción. Classes were called-off at midday for the occasion.

Patagonia sin represas

“In Chile we’re a mix. We don’t really have much to properly call our own as an entire country. We may have a few regional foods, but those are regional. You can’t really call them Chilean. Yes there are foods like empanadas and completos, but there are empanadas in other countries and to call a certain style of hot dog Chilean isn’t really something that you can pride yourself on.

But we have Patagonia. It’s something that really is Chile. It’s known around the world. When you say Patagonia it’s not like you find many people who return a blank look. People know of it. It’s something that Chileans feel is truly something they can share. While I may not have traveled to Patagonia yet, just like the majority of Chileans, I have the opportunity to do so. Among other obvious reasons, this is the reason why we are so furious about what is going to happen in Patagonia with the hydroelectric dams. Although not many people live down there, we all feel emotional about what’s going on. Patagonia is Chilean, not just physical beauty and land, but pride.”

Here you can see my roommate Chimbe in the lower left corner.

Stopping traffic in both directions.

The University of Concepción students marched to a main intersection to wait for other students from other universities in the city.

Jeez, I thought Patagonia was a brand of clothing. Thanks for the enlightenment.
